San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Shares Holiday Safety Tips

The Sweetwater Valley Civic Association is passing on these great safety tips from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department for community members to read and keep informed on the topic of safety this holiday season.

The main tip is to be aware. Use common sense no matter if you are at your residence or elsewhere in order to have an enjoyable and safe holiday time. When you are at home remember to lock windows and doors, do not open the door to strangers, and use light fixtures with motion sensors or timers if possible. When you are out be alert and aware of your surrounding. Lock up your car, roll up the windows, and do not leave your purse, wallet, electronics, or other important items in plain view, and try to stay in populated areas with good lighting. Crime increases during this time of the year, but if you follow these simple tips it could help prevent or deter crimes from occurring.

Keep aware of your surroundings whether you are at home or out and about. If you notice something out of place you can report suspicious activity by calling the Sheriff’s Department NON-EMERGENCY number: 858-565-5200. For emergencies call 9-1-1.

Thank you to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department for sharing these helpful tips. Be safe everyone and have a happy holiday season. Read more tips by clicking the Holiday Safety Tips Flyer below.
