Road Closure – Willow Street Bridge Project

Road Closure – Willow Street Bridge Project

Road closure of southbound lane of Willow Street Bridge and Sweetwater Road between Willow Street and Doral Way

Mr. Jonathan Salsman, Sr. Civil Engineer on the Willow Street Bridge Replacement Project shared some important news with SVCA. This project requires the temporary closure of the southbound lane of the Willow Street Bridge between Sweetwater Road and Bonita Road, including the closure of Sweetwater Road between Willow Street and Doral Way, to complete the first phase of improvements to the Willow Street Bridge Replacement Capital Improvement Program project.

The Traffic Engineering Sections of the City of Chula Vista, County of San Diego, and National City have approved the traffic control and detour plans and all required permits will be secured prior to the closure. The closure is scheduled to start Friday, March 2, 2018 at 9:00 p.m. and be completed by Monday, March 5, 2018 at 5:00 a.m. The work is contingent on weather conditions; pending no unexpected issues during the construction activities, the work should be completed by 5:00 a.m. and the streets reopened. The northbound lane of Willow Street Bridge and east-west traffic lanes on Bonita Road will remain open and not subject to road closure. Flaggers will be stationed at the intersection to allow emergency vehicles to go south on Willow Street over the bridge but, Sweetwater Road between Willow Street and Doral Way will be closed to emergency vehicles.
