News from SVCA June 7th Meeting

News and information from the recent Sweetwater Valley Civic Association June 7th Meeting.

Dear SVCA Members and Community Members,

We have a few important presentations/discussions taking place.  In particular I think we should all be interested in #8 regarding the trailer to SB 205, an energy-related bill that was passed in the last legislative session.  This is the one that will require all electricity users (both SDGE and Community Choice programs) to pay a fix fee unrelated to how much electricity we use, but rather a fixed fee  based on our income level.

For a State that encourages residents to install solar panels to develop clean energy, this effectively kills any incentive to install solar.  Our current elected officials (David Alvarez in the Assembly and Steve Padilla in the Senate) may be open to initiate a change to this law if there is enough support to do so.  While I could not get David or Steve to attend our meeting because they are in Sacramento, we have a direct line to Steve with his representative, Thomas Lawton. Thomas plans to talk about this bill and hear from us.  Our concerns will go directly to Steve Padilla and hopefully David Alvarez.  If you agree with me that this law is a bad idea, I hope you will attend the meeting and express your concerns.

We will also have most all the posters from our art contest available for you to look at.  For any donation amount whatsoever, you can take a poster home with you.  The annual meeting is always a fun and informative event, and I hope you will join us.

Remember, if you are interested in running for office, please let me know so I can get your name on the ballet.  Let me know which position you are interested in (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer or Member at Large).
