Nora Vargas Letter

Letter from Chairwoman Nora Vargas with links to forms to complete and submit for stormwater damage to your property + local evacuation sites for horses and other large animals.

Dear SVCA,

I hope this message finds you safe and well despite the challenging weather conditions that we’ve experienced this past week. As Chairwoman of the Board of Supervisors, and your representative, I want you to know we are working hard to help residents recover from the storm and prepare for the inclement weather headed our way on Thursday, 2/1/2024. If you or your family have experienced damages due to the storm, I urge you to go to: AlertSanDiego.org, the link is provided below. This information is vital for collecting data to assist in our efforts to seek aid from FEMA. Your input will greatly contribute to our ability to secure the necessary resources to aid our community in its recovery. Please share with those that may need it.

I wanted to also share that the Board of Supervisors is having a special meeting today to address community response and recovery for our neighbors. Now more than ever as the safety net for our communities we as a County are committed to ensuring everyone is safe and healthy.

Many of you, as well as your horses and other large animals, have been significantly impacted by the inclement weather. Your safety and well-being are our utmost priority, and we’re committed to providing support and assistance during this time. I am sharing with you a document listing the Department of Parks and Recreation locations throughout San Diego County that are prepared to serve as large animal evacuation sites during emergencies. These sites are equipped to provide temporary shelter and care for horses and other large animals during times of crisis. In the event of a bad storm or flooding in your area, please consider relocating your horses to one of these designated evacuation sites to ensure their safety. I encourage everyone to take proactive measures to review their emergency preparedness plans with their families. Sandbags are available at the Bonita-Sunnyside fire department, located at 4900 Bonita Rd, Bonita, CA, 91902.

I will keep you posted on next steps but wanted to make sure that I let you know that we are taking the first step in the right direction. Should you have any questions, feel free to reach my personal cell phone (619) 339-3634.

Sincerely,

Nora Vargas
