December 6, 2023 Meeting Notice

December 6, 2023 Meeting Notice

Join Us December 6th for the Upcoming Sweetwater Valley Civic Association  Meeting.

Dear Guests and members of the Sweetwater Valley Civic Association:

I appreciate we are heading into a really busy time of year, but I hope you will seriously consider joining us on December 6th to participate in a discussion about the County Animal Shelter property future use.

If the property will no longer be needed by the County, my fear is that it will become “surplus property” to be sold to the highest bidder for some type of housing, most likely apartments.  No one I’ve talked to thinks this would be a good thing.  Bonita does not have affordable senior housing, we don’t have a community recreation center, we don’t have a senior center, and I’m sure you can come to the meeting with ideas of what else we lack in our community.  I strongly believe we need to decide what we think is best, and then run it up the flag pole to our County representative, Nora Vargas.  But before we start pitching an idea(s) to her, we need to be in agreement (or at least a few options) on what we want to see there. I’d rather have us decide our future, rather than have someone outside our community decide our future.

Just a heads up that our January 3rd meeting will be an outreach event by an FBI special agent to talk to us about fraud, and what to watch out for.  This may be really important for us older folks.  Scammers are getting more and more sophisticated. Victims have lost thousands of dollars falling for these scams.  We don’t want to become another fraud statistic.  We will be focusing an upcoming community outreach email to our Bonita neighbors inviting them to attend.  I hope we can fill the room.
